Do people in the US take vacations outside of the US?

I have just read an article here in Britain which says that compared to Europeans, a very high % of people in the US do not travel outside of the US on vacation.

The article also goes on to say that a very small % actually have a passport.

As many of you live in the US, I would be interested to know the following (only from US based members):

Your age
Do you have a passport
Have you travelled outside of the US
If yes, where have you travelled to
If no, why have you not travelled outside the US
Finally, why is it that such a small % of Americans seem to take vacation outside of their own country compared to most Europeans.

I realise that the US is huge and is made up of many states, but is there no desire or curiosity to experience other cultures and see some of the famous places in other parts of the world?

I’m 25, have a passport, and have been to England (x3), Ireland, Scotland, France, Wales, and Spain.

In Europe, you can take a train to a different country and immerse yourself in their culture for a weekend. In America, you’d have to take hours of flights and stay longer for it to be worth it. It’s simple logic that many people would rather save their money and travel time. However, not all Americans are like this - don’t let one study generalize your view of us.
