Do cigarettes make you gain weight?

Ok I smoke and I was just wondering if anyone knows if you gaine weight from it??

Answer #1

Cigarette smoking increases a person’s metabolic rate in part by forcing the heart to beat faster. When a cigarette is inhaled, the smoker’s heart may beat 10 to 20 times more per minute for a period of time. This causes extra stress on the heart and plays a role in heart disease, the most common cause of smoking-related death. Think about this: A smoking habit of 20 cigarettes a day puts approximately the same amount of stress on the heart as 90 pounds of extra weight would. When we stop smoking, heart rate slows down somewhat, causing metabolism to dip a bit as well. This can in turn trigger a slight weight gain. So in turn, smoking really makes you lose weight if you have that kind of addiction. When you quit smoking, your metabolism is not used to the little amount of stress on your heart, so you can gain a little weight. Studies show that after 7 years of not smoking, the metabolism gets back to the way it was before the smoker started smoking, due to the consistent diet.

I dont think effects you weight when you are actually smoking that much. It might make you eat slightly less, because you are smoking so often, so when you want that hand to mouth fixation instead of food you grab a smoke.. I do know that a lot of people tend to gain when when they quit..But id rather be a little chubby then have black lungs and cancer.

Answer #8

It depends. They say people who smoke are smaller because they are preoccupied with smoking instead of eating.

I do know many obese people who smoke and eat at the same time so it really is how much you eat that makes you fat.

Cigarettes make you crave tobacco instead of food but the effects are bad lungs, bad skin, and expensive.

I know when you quit smoking most people gain weight because they want to put something in their mouth and usually it is food to replace the cigarette.

Answer #9

I smoke and Im trying to quite and yes I was skinny before I started smoking around 140 but when I started smoking I ate a little breakfast lunch and dinner but when you start craving snacks and donuts which are absolutly wonderful because I love junk food! but instead of eating these snacks you smoke and then it replaces the need to put something in my mouth. I know smoking is horrible for you and I may die from it. But for some reason I just love it, maybe its the concept of putting something in my mouth im not sure. but it is true from my experiance that it does help you not eat as much, I tried stopping and I just needed to put things in my mouth pens, straws, I was always munching on something. As much as people say they would rather be fat then get cancer I mean seriously have you ever smoked do you know what its like you really cant judge these people if you dont know what there going through. people smoke for a variety of reasons.

I started smoking when I was 185 pounds and now I weigh 240. Smoking slows down your metabolism and the calories you try to burn off wont burn off.
