Right click and press the ‘D’ key to send it to the Recycle bin, or do the same thing but press and hold down the ‘SHIFT’ key just before pressing the ‘D’ key and it will just dump the picture, by-passing the recycle bin. HOWEVER all methods that Windows uses to get rid of stuff will leave a ‘ghost’ copy of the file on the hard drive / flash drive. And someone with the right abilities can get it back. But it takes some work and effort.

The only way to totally destroy all traces is to get a program (called a ‘SCRUBBER’) that you can run. It will over write your old file (or free space) many, many times to destroy all traces. Sort of like writing a word on a piece of paper and then scribbling over the word a hundred times with random scribbles. If you are getting rid of an old computer or hard drive, you should do this to destroy any passwords or confidential information on the drive. Active@ KillDisk does this and is freeware available from http://download.cnet.com which is a very well respected source of safe programs. Good Luck!!
