Is it 'dangerous' for a pregnant women to be around mice, snakes, and a gecko?

considering they were all captive raised.

Answer #1

As long as their habitat is kept clean, so no mold grows in there and you wash your hands after handling them, you should be fine.

Answer #2

Honestly, I don’t see how lizards or mice will have any effect on the pregnant woman. The snake, on the other hand, can be dangerous because it bites…and could be poisonous.

Answer #3

They’re just ball pythons so they’re not poisonous. plus only babies, so their bites don’t really do too much.

Answer #4

i did hear about salmonilla in reptiles, but if they were born in captive than is it more likely they dont have it?

Answer #5

I really don’t know about that so i’d look at some reliable sources on the internet but i do know that pregnant women can catch something called toxoplasmosis from a cat’s faeces. Therefore, it’s best that if you do own a cat that you never empty the litter tray when pregnant as a precaution. This might not apply to you but it does show that a pregnant woman can be much more susceptible to developing problems from animals when pregnant. I’d do some research.

Answer #6

It’s no worse than handling raw chicken - wash your hands after handling them.

Answer #7

oh yea. i dont clean the litter box anymore. haha. but my boyfriend’s mom moved the litterbox right outside my room door. i’m not sure WHY considering it was fine in the bathroom, but that wont effect anything will it?

Answer #8

Toxoplasmosis is spread through direct contact so the only way you might catch it is you were actually handling the litter tray. As long as you don’t do that you should be fine… good that you’re trying to find out about all of this though

Answer #9

I think its all fine as long as you wash your hands well after any contact with them and they are kept nice and clean. If possible have someone else do the cleaning. As its such a serious thing (Your baby’s good health is paramount) I would suggest you talk to Dr. just to be sure or at least do some serious research on the topic.

Answer #10

will do. and they arent my pets. they’re my boyfriends, so its lucky if i every help him clean their cages. lmao.

Answer #11

I would be a bit cautious with rodents as their waste contains some pretty nasty chemicals. I dont know if its actually a problem though or thats just me being paranoid.

Answer #12

No you’ll be fine, of course always wash you’re hands (preferably up to your elbows) after handling any them because it is possible to get salmonella from all of them, including the mice, (because they were probably bought at a pet store).
