Is it okay to curse if im a christian?

Answer #1

very true…

but you have to admit… some people try too hard.

Answer #2

I now believe with all my heart that there truly is a spirit of nicotene, behind the scene, working on people to keep them hooked

…a nicotene spirit, huh? What his name? Marlboro, the fiendish god of cigarettes?

shakes head

…nut.

Answer #3

Not really. The Scripture speaks against it and tells us to control our tongue and our every thought. . . We may not Be perfect but we are suppose to try.

Answer #4

I try not to, for the reasons mealw gives above. But sometimes I get angry and say something I shouldn’t. Then I always try to apologise to whoever heard me - definitely God, and anyone else who heard! It may take a while to get out of the habit if you curse a lot at the moment, but you can change habits. In the end, you find those words don’t come to mind so much any more.

Answer #5

Old habits die hard…If you have truly repented of your sins, and asked Jesus to come to live within you, you will begin to be convicted of this, as well as other things that are not pleasing to him. He does not change us all at one time, because we would not know how to act, we would be like a foreigner, in our own body. The world loves the word “evolve”, so, I suppose we could sort of say, we evolve… into the new man. Some things are changed instantly… like for instance. When I first got saved, or when Christ became real to me, he took the desire that I had for alcohol, instantly. I did not see it go, nor feel it go, but, go it did, because I no longer had any desire for it. I had been delivered. I was not an alcoholic, but, I did drink quiet a bit of alcohol. It was relaxing and enjoyable to me, but, I no longer wanted it.

I had another habit that did not go, instantly, that of smoking. That I had to wrestle with. I prayed about it for about a year, trying everything, with no success, however, I feel that I was under conviction over it, that is the term used when the Holy Spirit deals with us about something that he wants out of our life. When you are convicted of something, it won’t go away… there is just a continued feeling of, I want and need to quit this. But, you still have to find a way to do it.

One day, a friend walked into the little country store that I ran at the time, and started picking on me about my cigarettes, and since I was in a less than desirable mood anyway, I picked up my leather cig. case, that I cherished… and throwed it at him… Not with the intent to hurt, but, a little forcefully, showing my displeasure… I said to him, Take it, I will never have another one. And I meant it…

I still had to wrestle with the desire. I figured out how much I was spending each day, on cig. and I put that amt. in a quart fruit jar, and set it on the cash reg. so that everyone would see what I was doing. I also drawed up a page with 30 squares on it, crossing out one at the end of each day, showing that I had made it thru that day, I also, watched as the green grew in the jar on the register. People would ask me about it, and it was an open invitation to tell them what and how and why, I was doing this. I also asked a good friend to pray for me, daily, while I was going thru this. I too prayed, and rebuked the spirit of nicotene, every time it would come, it would leave, but come back. However, I was determined to succeed. So… it took 3 weeks of wrestling with this every day… to break its hold on me… Now, I can identify with the scripture, Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed !!! I am not bothered at all by others smoke. I am free… Sins hold has been broken… Praise God !!!

I now believe with all my heart that there truly is a spirit of nicotene, behind the scene, working on people to keep them hooked, apart from just a physical craving, addiction. Because, the man that aggravated me that day in the store, quit smoking on his own, 19 years prior… but, still, on occasion, had dreams about them. This does not jive… unless a spirit is involved, in my way of thinking.

The bible says that we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but, with principalities of the air, and wickedness in high places. To me, those high places are our minds… and what spirit is in residence there, or should I say, how many spirits???

Point being, salvation is a free gift from God, sanctification is a process…

But, one well worthwhile. I would urge you to keep taking this before the Lord, until you find yourself free of this influence, if you are a Christian.

Many Blessings…

There are two variations of cursing: profanities and obscenities. Profanities are things such as taking the LORD’s name in vain, cursing someone to hell, etc. Obscenities are crude and/or explicit expressions or words like the f word and the b word. There are a few things to consider when one desires to use either of the above.

  1) First of all, whenever obscenities or profanities are used it always comes from a place of anger. Right there is something to think about. God is clear that anger is okay, it's an emotion, Jesus himself became angry with the money changers in the temple (Matt. 21:12) however, he is also clear that we must take care not to be sinful in our anger (Eph. 4:26). How are you choosing to express your anger? What are you looking to accomplish?
  2) The strongest reason not to use profanity is that in doing so, the person (though perhaps inadvertently) assumes the role and power of God by invoking the curse of damnation or some such other suffering upon another person. The power to determine life and death is God's and God's only (Rom. 11:33-36). It is more than disrespectful to elbow God aside - he who sacrificed his own son for our sake - to curse someone or something of his creation to damnation.
  3) On a more secular level, profanity and obscenity are crude, rude, and disrespectful. Not to sound snobby, but Western Society on the whole frowns upon the unculturedness of it. And you will find few adults who use it in the work place. We know little of people's private lives, but of their public lives we know enough to understand that the populace won't elect a swearing candidate or request a profanity slinging speaker for convocation.
Cursing and swearing just isn't pretty. It's not even that cool. Most adults see it as a sign of a small vocabulary as well as the need to expand the mind and broaden horizons. In Galatians 5:22 Paul speaks of the fruits of the spirit. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. If we are spirit-filled, this is what we should be emanating. Finally, "whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the LORD Jesus," Col. 3:17.

If you’re a Christian you have a testimony - you represent Christ to others - it should be your desire that, everything you do and SAY pleases Him, brings Him honor/glory.

Answer #8

The Bible says in James 3:1-10 that blessing and cursing should not come from the same mouth. You should read it for yourself though. Never take someone’s word until you have checked the scripture. In Christ, David
