Could the morning afterpill have altered my periods?

On the 3rd of this month my boyfriend and I started having unprotected sex, after realising it was a dumb idea we started to stop. Suddenly he pushes me off him and ejaculates. We sat around for a while, thinking it over and he assured me that I don’t need to worry, that nothing happened while he was inside me etc. However I decided that I didn’t want to take that risk and while I’m sure he thinks nothing happened, that doesn’t necessarily mean his right. So that afternoon (less then 12 hours later) I went to the chemist and asked for the morning after pill. It cost $29.95 and the woman said to take both tablets together as soon as I could. In my panicked state I rushed to the bathroom and read the instructions and they too said to take the two together. I was confused I had always thought you needed to take them apart, but I decided it was best to follow the instructions and took them.

In my rush, I discarded the packet before returning home. I do have a vague memory of the name of the pill starting with ‘L’. Six days later I woke up to find that I was bleeding. It was much lighter then my period, but still heavy enough to leave a ten cent sized piece on my bed sheet. The next day it was very light and did not continue after that. After a quick google search, I found ‘levonorgestrel’ and that it was not uncommon for woman to experience bleeding up to seven days after consuming it. It also said that you could take the two tablets at once.

However I have yet to have my period this month. I’ve been sexually active for around a year and a half now, and have taken the morning after pill once before when the condom broke and this disrupted my periods a reasonable amount, changing it so they start at the end of one month and go into the beginning of the next month. This then gets progressively later through the month. In the last year & a half I’ve also had a somewhat change to my period symptoms. I have never noticed breast tenderness before hand, however now they are usually tender from a few days to a week before hand. I’ve only noticed this after I’ve become sexually active and at first I was scared it was a sign of pregnancy.

In truth, I’m incredibly scared that maybe I am pregnant. I’ve been under a reasonably amount of stress with the HSC among other things, as well as this paranoia which I know can affect your periods as well. I intend to take a pregnancy test after I complete all my exams. I’ve not expierenced nausea, breast tenderness etc. I guess what I really want to know is, is it possible that the pill simply disrupted my period?

Well, even if he ejaculated outside your vagina, he could of still impregnanted you. Its a fact that if he ejaculated anywhere on your vagina, the sperm will still swim inside your vagina and to where they belong in your ovaries etc… And you may not have taken the pill soon enough. Since the sooner you take it, the better it works. You should take a pregancy test, you can get one from your local drug store. And if you are pregnant, and you dont want the baby, you can always ask your doctor for the abortion pill. Good luck and hope I helped.
