Why did Congress create more than 450 new crimes between 2000 and 2007?

It seems to me that there are already far too many ways the government strips our freedoms and spends money on wasteful things. Have I been asleep and there really were that many important, newly discovered things we should put people into prison for during the Bush years?

Answer #1

i didnt know this at all, but it just seems that our government is becoming too big and thats the worst thing

Answer #2

Crimes or laws? Big difference. But they write laws to pass bills to get money for things that they forget to mention in the bill. If you mean crimes, then I’m not sure they have really added any crimes but I don’t know exactly what you mean

Answer #3

What I mean is: they codified new things that, if done prior to 2000, were not federal crimes, but due to new legislation being passed, those same things are now considered criminal acts.

Imho…it’s all about increasing the prison population to ensure big corporate profits for private, corporate run prisons.

Answer #4

If you look at the intent of these laws you will see a disturbing pattern. With some of these laws individual rights are being usurped and given to the corporations. It is getting to the point that corporations have more rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness than the individual does. Other laws are enacted to appropriate money quickly for our government, especially on a local level, to balance their budget.
