Why does conditioner make my hair feel greasy?

I have always used matching shampoos and conditioners all my life. But these past few months, the store brand ones that I always use started making my hair feel greasy even after it was washed. Then I switched to herbal essences “touchably smooth”. That too, made my hair feel greasy. So just last week I decided to try out Garnier’s new “naturals” shampoo and conditioner. It’s made my hair MUCH MUCH more worse. It is so disgusting! I even just washed my hair a few hours ago and I just now went to straighten it for the first time in weeks and it just feels disgusting! Is there any brand that may stop this? I want my beautiful, clean, soft hair back :( I don’t want to have to keep my hair tied up! Help? :(

I’ve had that issue a several times with Herbal Essences shampoos as well!! I had to really rinse my hair out when using their conditioner, but even though I rinsed it out good, I’d still feel as if it were too greasy! You may want to try using less conditioner. Or you just have to find a shampoo/conditioner that’s right for you! - I find Dove to be a really good brand :)

Conditioners coat the hair to protect from damage and to allow it to slide to prevent tangles. It sounds like you have very thin hair; thin hair tends to get oily and conditioners tend to weigh it down. Do you really need conditioner? If your hair looks good and healthy without conditioner you can skip it. Otherwise try to find the lightest conditioner you can. You should also try “leave-in” conditioner.

Conditioner causes product build up in your hair. You shouldn’t be putting it on your roots. Also expensive conditioners I find is worse because they contain more products such as silicone and added protein which can cause your hair to become more greasy. Rather wash your hair every 3rd day and use the cheapest shampoo you can find. Oily hair can also be as a result of washing your hair too often.

buy a conditioner that doesnt have grease tresemme is good & suave

Answer #5

use elvive light conditioner then use a fine tooth comb through your hair. Also try not washing your hair as much so once ever 2days that way you wont get so much grease build up from the shampoo and conditioner. Try not to put a lot of conditioner on your hair either. If you have a wide tooth afro sort of comb put conditioner on that and leave it for 3mins then use the comb through your hair and you wont need to put any more conditioner on except for what you put on the comb. Hope this helps!

I have tried hundreds and the only one that doesn’t seem to leave that heavy greasy feeling is a new one made by LUSH. It’s called Retread, and it’s made from soya, yoghurt and melon. It doesn’t smell great, but i swear it’s worth a try.

i like to use garneir cause ina way it dries out ur hair(but not ina bad way) then the conditioner makes it soft again but not greasy and makes it feel clean. ohh and i always rinse off conditioner with really cold water(it helps!) i have really oily hair-_- but when i use and do all this you cant even tell (:

Answer #8

That happens with me to, I just stopped using it. and put a treatment on my hair or just my ends

Answer #9

Make sure you are washing the conditioner out very thoroughly, and try and look for a mint based one, it will have less oil than regular ones. If you’re buying one with ‘for silky straight hair’ or ‘for smooth lush hair’ written on it, it will have more oils than other ones. Look for one with no special ‘ability’ for want of a better word haha.

Answer #10

Make sure you only put the conditioner on your hair. If you put it on your scalp, your hair will be greasy.
