communication issues.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 years now. We just moved into our first apartment and Im kind of having a small issue that I dont know how to bring up.

I am a full time student from 8am-3pm, so Im currently unemplyed. He works mostly in the evening from 5pm-midnight.

It seems like everytime he leaves to work he tells me to straighten up the place. I dont mind cleaning, but I mean he is home all day. So the way I see it is that he would do something in those hrs that hes home so that I dont have to do it ALL when I get home.

How can I bring this up to him?

Well I don’t really see this being a question of when you are at home, you both work, roughly the same hours, you arguably have to do more work at home due to coursework/assignments etc. This is quite the monumental ‘communication issue’ when you have been together for 5 years :) It’s really simple! Just state your opinion on the matter. Doesn’t have to be in an aggressive or confrontational way. Simply talk about it. He should respect your view and agree to help out, if that is reasonable, which it sounds like it is. If that’s not the case, then surely there’s something quite fundamentally wrong here? :S I don’t really get how you can be together for so long, and yet be unsure, or afraid of how to bring up an issue like that? Really puzzled here

Sorry if it came across as condescending, it wasn’t meant to be, wanted to help! I just don’t understand why it’s difficult to bring this up with him? I agree with you, you shouldn’t be doing all the work!

thanks? Though weve been dating for 5 years we’ve only been living together for about 2 months. I dont know if our age would change your perspective either. Im 20 and hes 21. maybe im making a big deal out of everything. I don’t know Im just tired when I come from school, cleaning an apartment alone that is shared by 2 is not what im looking forward to do.
