Christians/Theism?

Anyone agree with me that the idea of a god is completely retarded? I don’t get why so many people devote their entire freaking life to worship someone that sounds like a stalker? Sure, theres faith, but I think it’s all BS.

Answer #1

people can call you ignorant or whatever, but your entitled to believe whatever you want and frankly I think the same thing.

I dont believe in god, and im totally fine. people that try to push religion and god onto other people, that dont believe in it, are the ignorant ones.

Answer #2

DUDE I LOVE U!!! lol & There is no god!!! just a giant lollipop in the sky!!!

Answer #3

Worded this question wrong - I apologize to anyone I have hurt, was kind of flustered at the time being from people complaining to me why I don’t believe, and thus, I am truly sorry. I was ignorant, and do accept the fact that a lot of people believe. And Alyssa, I used to believe, but still find it just as easy to get through the day.

Answer #4

Okay this is how I see it I believe in god you don’t. If there is no god we are both good but if there is a god you are screwed and I am good. Therfore believing in god is a win win situation.

Answer #5

well im a proud athiest and as much I hate hate god, hate the idea of god, dont respect that religion and dont beleive or agree with anything it teaches. I respect that people can CHOOSE to beleive in whatever they want to weather that be in nothing, in one of the many gods there are, in fairies, in satan, ect as long as there not forcing there beleifs on me, not idiots who go around trying to convert everyone else to there religion, and not hurting anyone/anything living then what there doing is of no concern to me im a proud athiest, and couldnt care less about any god, especially the christian god and am quite happy to tell the religiouse people who want to convert me that I would ohnestly be happier dead than beleiving in there god but if there not doing any of the mentioned things above, what there doing doesnt bother me and doesnt affect my life

Answer #6

I hate the idea of god, just because its made so many people stubborn and made a lot of people go out and start converting people into there religion. I dont respect that religion, I dont like it, and I dont agree with anything it teaches. but I respect the fact that people can choose whatever they want to beleive in its perfcetly normal to not want to respect something you hate just like people dont respect other people they hate I dont respect that religion in particular but I respect that they can choose whatevere they want to beleive in

Answer #7

I’ve grown up in church so therefore I don’t think its retarted.

Answer #8

You’re free to have your opinions, but you might also consider the fact that millions of people all over the world, for millennia, have believed in some kind of supreme being. Maybe it’s worth a closer look - if you feel bad about Christianity, try looking into some other faiths and see what they just might have to offer.

Answer #9

To me religion is fascinating. I think that religion is a mirror that reflects mankind’s wants, needs, and fears. To understand religion is to better understand what it means to be human.

To me the truth in religion comes from its symbols and metaphors rather than what it literally says. It’s connotation rather than its denotation.

One of the problems with modern religion is that believers have been so fixated on the literal truth of the stories that they miss the allegory. Finding the symbols has become rather difficult. At the symbolic level the world religions have a lot more in common than at the literal level.

I don’t think that intelligence has much to do with someone’s worldview. The smartest person I ever met was a devout Christian. I’d say that one’s worldview has a lot more to do with your culture and upbringing than intelligence.

Answer #10

I don’t think it’s retarded. It’s a bit silly, tho. In my oppinion. Back in the days it probably made a lot of sense, and helped people survive. And I don’t have anything against people that believe in that stuff as long as they don’t go around telling it’s “the truth”, “Jesus is the son of god and our saviour”(in christian case) etc. But I see no reason to believe in a god/s like any of the religions describe him/her/them to be. Unless it makes you feel better, of course.

Answer #11

Anyone agree with me that the idea of a god is completely retarded?

No…

Believing there is something greater than your own existence, something that surpasses your own mind, your imagination and the very universe you exist in… it actually makes COMPLETE sense. Considering physical properties in our reality advance from the simple to the complex, while at the same time suffering an ongoing deconstruction and chaos (entropy). Does it NOT make sense that this complexity would continue beyond what we can perceive?

I don’t consider the idea of god to be ‘retarded’ at all… now RELIGIONS on the other hand, and how people practice them… is a different story…

I don’t get why so many people devote their entire freaking life to worship someone that sounds like a stalker? Sure, theres faith, but I think it’s all BS.

Well… people are aware of their own mortality… most people don’t like the idea of just CEASING to exist when they die; so we as a society tend to think about death quite often. The problem is, nobody alive knows what death will BE like, what it will FEEL like.

But the idea of our existence CONTINUING, in some other plane of existence, be it true or not, gives people peace of mind, while they’re alive… at least.

Answer #12

Anyone agree with me that the idea of a god is completely retarded?

Fortunately, I have a “personal relationship” with Him and continue to grow in the knowledge of His existence. I used to be a die-hard Atheist, but always respected the beliefs of those who saw things differently. It is no mystery that this so-called stalking you refer to is God pursuing His children just long enough for them to turn and “catch” Him. I suppose if loving my maker makes me retarded, then that is what I would much rather be than to go through my life not having this amazing intimate union. If God were not real, no I would not have to invent Him. I found Him because I studied long and hard in an attempt to satisfy myself that He couldn’t be real. He convinced me otherwise. This 54 year old retard has enjoyed 31 years of “getting to know Him” Amongst other things I have learned not to insult others even if I think it’ll help me make a point. BTW the mentally disadvantaged take umbrage with being referred to as retards. So do believers. So does anyone. BS aside- All Blessings Always

Answer #13

I can agree that the idea of God is completly retarded, tseirpeht, the idea of god not the people who believe in god. I have bothered to research the subject actually and found that most people who call themselves Christians probably havne’t.

The majority of people under 9 still believe in Santa Clause too, he resides in the imaginations of millions of children. Santa gets children to behave during the holidays but isn’t responsible for the presents.

The idea of god doesn’t make much sense because most people get their idea of god from ancients. The ancients the idea derived from lived in a very different world then we do today. It is in this light that the concept of god makes most sense, when it finds it’s place with other ancient ideas, mythology, and ledgends that aren’t taken seriously.

Unfortunately Christianity hasn’t died off from society yet. Why are people so desperate to believe in god? I come to the conclusion that they were either brainwashed with it, find it a moral standard or appealing and comforting.

Answer #14

^^^I dont believe in god, and im totally fine. people that try to push religion and god onto other people, that dont believe in it, are the ignorant ones.^^^

People who try to force their beliefs (atheism included) on others are also ignorant. Just because you don’t believe in something doesn’t make someone else wrong. Point is you can’t prove you are right and neither can they.

Answer #15

And be careful who you spout that off to. Catholics weren’t the only ones burning people at the stake, and Christian-based mobs were a problem until after the American Civil War, at least in the south. And there’s still plenty of nuts down here.

And ya, like the last guy said. In the Western Hemisphere, the majority still believe in a supreme being of some sort, the majority of them Christian.

Answer #16

I think if you sat an intelligent well educated person down who had never heard of gods before, and explained it to them, they would laugh at the outrageous idea.

However, if you drill a child with the idea for their entire life, it’s perfectly understandable that they would embrace it.

It certainly is all BS, but there’s no mystery as to why people accept it.

Answer #17

Many of these retarded people you are referring to are doctors. Just because you have not bothered to research the subject does not make you an authority, it makes you ignorant.

Answer #18

and as much I hate hate god How can you hate something that, for you, does not exist?? That’s a heavy duty emotion for a non-existant being…

The word “retarded” seems a tad intolerent…believe what you will…others will do the same. You will never get believers to follow YOUR beliefs…but you can pass tolerance around…

Answer #19

Personally, I’m not religious and I don’t really believe in God, heaven, or hell. However, I’d be a bit more careful how you phrase your words in public as people may take offense to it if they are religious. Even if you don’t believe in God, at least respect other people’s decisions to do so.

Answer #20

you sound really ignorant.

Everyone in the world believes in something and some people choose to believe in a superior being. You probably believe in your own abilities to do things.

You don’t have to get something to respect it. You choose not to believe…I choose to believe in something else, because according to me it will enhance my life.
