Why does my cat constantly try and get into my food?

Why does she always knock things over?It pisses me off so bad.

Answer #1

Cats can be trained to follow most restrictions - like trying to get your food. However, they’re mostly independent creatures who will do what they want. Cats love to chase things - they knock things off tables and shelves just so they can run after them. Make sure she has enough toys to play with and she just might stop playing with your things. In the end, be patient…a cat is innocent - they don’t understand that what they are doing is wrong unless you teach them.

Answer #2

Because you’re really bad at training her? Just as kids are rarely at fault for their bad behavior, pets are rarely at fault for bad behavior. Train her and she’ll stop. My cat used to jump onto kitchen counters, on to the dining room table and into the food. She doesnt any more. Use treats for good behavior, punish bad behavior (I like time outs, as crazy as that sounds to everyone else) and your cat will behave better.

I think cats really like the attention. They’re like kids who misbehave just because they want the attention.

Answer #4

Animals aren’t expected to act like humans. They are ANIMALS! They just do stuff like that. HOWEVER, it’s very easy to train your cat to stay off the counter/table but very repetitious. Your cat naturally wants on your counter/table to get a drink or because they like a high place. Counters/tables are the favorite because food also goes up there. Cats are harder to train than a dog but you can train them. Here are some things you can try.

#1 Make sure they are always fed on the floor never on the counter! Start by just telling them no firmly and taking them off the kitchen counter. You will need to do this over and over. Continue to do this for two days. I know this is going to be the hardest part because if you do not do it every time your cat or kitten gets on the counter your cat will not learn. It is all repetition that teaches your cat and it is very tedious for you.

#2 Your cat or kitten is going to hate this but nine times out of ten it works. You need to go to the local store and buy a spray bottle. When your cat gets up on the counter you will say no just like before, but this time you will spray them in the face or head. If they haven’t already jumped down put them on the floor and repeat no down very firmly. Most cats already ran away to lick themselves dry because they don’t like being wet. Continue to do this constantly just keep your patience. Please do not soak the kitten or cat they don’t like water so a little goes a long way. Your cat will learn, some just take longer than others. Unless you have a cat that likes water I have never seen one but I have heard of one that liked the shower.

THEY ALSO HAVE SHOCK MATS, BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS….AND CRUEL!!!

I really hope I helped :) GOOD LUCK!!!
