Is it harmful to be carrying a baby after having back surgery?

bc no one would pick up the screaming baby?

Answer #1

Is it bad? Of course, considering the damage to your body your risking.

There are other ways to soothe a crying infant without almost re-injuring yourself after surgery. Swaddle them in a blanket, offer a pacifier, etc. Then ask someone to lift the child for you.

Answer #2

my mom and sister said they was to bussy doing stuff. to left her and the pacifier was in the they babys room .

Answer #3

Yes, it is bad to pick up anything heavy after back surgery regardless of whether the object is an infant or not. It’s actually very dangerous because if your back had given in or gone into spasm you would have dropped the baby which can lead to all kinds of brain injury and can even be fatal for the child, not to mention the damage you could do to yourself there too. You don’t have to pick up a crying baby to get it to stop crying. Soothing voices/singing/whispering sometimes works, offering a toy depending on the baby’s age, or rocking the crib from side to side could work.

- You need to remember here that back surgery isn’t just like bruise or a scrape. It’s potentially life threatening, and if you misuse yourself while it’s still healing you could do worse and end up in a wheelchair for the rest of your life. No joke.

Answer #4

no one would pick her up and she was cring and wanting feed . and evry one said they was doing something even tho they agreed to watch her until i recovered.

Answer #5

the doctor should normally give you a weight limit of what you can lift. It also really depends on how big the infant is. if it was a new born then you’d probably be ok but if it was one year old then it’s not a good idea

Answer #6

Yes it is bad, especially if the baby was down low, like in a playpen, or the crib mattress is set low. If the baby is an infant, of course it would not be so bad as lifting a toddler, but if your doctor told you not to lift anything, or not to lift anything over 5 lbs, then you should always follow your doctors advice. Maybe if it happens again, see what you can do to calm the baby down without lifting it. If all else fails, go get someone else to pick the baby up, and hand it to you while you are sitting down.

Answer #7

If she is an infant, unable to pull up on the crib or roll over, I would have someone set the mattress up to the highest setting in the crib, then if it happens again you will be able to change her and feed her without having to lift her. Also, I am not sure what area you live in, but you could contact the social services department (if this is your child) and inquire if they have a program where someone can come out and assist you with caring for her until you heal. It could be that your insurance company offers something as well. If nothing else, see if another family member can stop in a few times a day to help you bathe her et. As a last resort, sit the people down that agreed to help you with her, and explain to them again, that if you injure your back, they will be caring for her a lot longer.
