I want to cook a candle light dinner for a friend. What a good menu?
Heh, I was going to suggest just the opposite as southern. A visually appealing place setting demands a visually appealing meal. If you are going to incorporate such a dynamic visual appeal as candlelight, make sure what's on the plate matches, and this goes beyond a simple baked potato and garden salad.
Southeast Asian foods incorporate a variety of bold colors that would pop nicely in candlelight, using lots of reds and yellows and oranges. Even bolder-looking would be Indian, of course, but a) it's a little more complex to make and b) Indian isn't the msot romantic genre.
More traditional would be something Italian. Try some oversized homemade ravioli and a blend of fresh cheeses. The contrast of pasta to sauce to cheese makes for an interesting palette for the plate.
On the occasion of having a romantic candle-light dinner, I usually go for French cuisine in Brigitte's - French Restaurant - http://www.boorah.com/restaurants/CA/santa-clara/brigittes/01C5B3198D.html.
Hmmm... Be simple do a T-Bone steak or Chicken Breast (Grilled) With Baked potatoes and Garden salad! don't forget some good wine!
I would suggest something Italian. Maybe a pasta, salad, and breadsticks or garlic bread.
