Can I have dyslexia without a family record?

I think I have dyslexia but my mom doesn’t think so she won’t even listen. I looked at the sympotoms I have a lot of them. I don’t want to go to the counseler because they will tell my mom. I don’t have a family history of it I don’t think is there any test that can give me clear resolts to show my mom?

Answer #1

No. You’d need a psychologist to do an assessment. At a clinic those tests run into thousands of dollars… Your school would do it, but your mother would have to be involved…

Answer #2

Unfortunately there is not. The only way to diagnos dyslexia is by a professioanl performing a series of tests. These test help determine how you learn. (reading, orally, actively) Based on these tests a professional can determine if you have dyslexia.

Answer #3

It is certainly possible to have it without a family history of it… But its not something that just happens you would have had it all your life, it should have been picked up on while you were in school however thats not always the case… Go talk to your gp about it he will be able to send you to the right proffesionals who can carryout the tests that will determine whether you have it or not.. Xo:)
