Can a cop pull you over for no reason in Cincinnati, Ohio?

I was driving in someone else’s car (they had a valid drivers license and all the tags were legal). I was going the speed limit and following all the laws and he still pulled me over (my license is suspended.) When I asked the reason for pulling me over he said “Because I know you didn’t have a license.” Is this considered to be a violation of my rights? He didn’t have any other reasons for pulling me over.

Answer #1

No it’s not a violation of your rights…when it comes to driving you have no rights since you don’t have a valid driver’s license.

Yes they can pull you over…all they need is one little reason to do it. And when a cop runs a license plate they don’t automatically assume that the driver is the same person the car is registered to. Also, your friend could get into some trouble for letting you drive their car knowing that your license is suspended.

Answer #2

If the cop knows you and knows that you’re driving on a suspended license, then that is enough probable cause, otherwise talk to a lawyer.

Answer #3

Would you be asking this, if your license was a valid one? You’re asking about probable cause…and you need to talk to a lawyer, different states have different laws. It’s too bad you were breaking the law by driving…you might have had a case.
