i just got braces :3

I got them about 7 hours ago, and they are really starting to hurt! How to I ease the pain and what are some soft food suggestions you have? I’ve taken tylonal already throughout the day. If you had braces, did you find hot or cold foods helped better?

I found that hot foods helped more than cold but I have very cold sensitive teeth >,< Soup of course is good for when you don’t want to chew anything, fish and rice also cause minimal pain. I also like to eat a lot of oatmeal with bananas :) Packaged noondles are great for the days when its really bad. Well cooked green beans, well cooked broccoli, all kind of beans and lentils, just everything that isn’t too chewy or hard is best. Black bean salad has always been one of my favorite salads and never caused me any extra pain. My mom’s recipe is different than the ones I have found from googling so if you want it I can funmail it to you :) and thankfully, my mom’s spaghetti (my favorite thing in the world) is perfectly fine to eat and never caused me any pain. XD

Things to avoid eating: Bread D: It gets all gunked up in all the wires and gah O-O Anything chewy is like the worst for me, like a chewy tortilla that you kind of have to pull on or tear or something. Of course chips aren’t good, unless they are like really thin and you can kind of melt them in your mouth o-O Nuts aren’t good and they also get stuck everywhere and make it harder to clean your teeth, which also hurts. Apples hurt, pears hurt (unless they are the soft kind), almost all salady type leaves hurt to chew. Tomatoes are okay if they are ripe, cucumbers are probably okay if the skin is removed and its chopped very fine.

Sorry that almost everything I listed was super healthy >,< it’s just the stuff that I eat XD I never took any pain medicine for the pain. but you do get used to it so it will be better after a couple months. and it mostly goes away 3 - 4 days after getting your wires or rubber bands changed. Good luck!. I still have my braces in after two and a half years o-o so hopefully you won’t need them in for too too long.

Getting it on for the first time hurts the worst. After wards when you get it tightened every month or so, it hurts but no where near as bad. I never took anything for the pain either but that’s mostly because I’m one of those people who do not take medication until absolutely necessary. I remember warm food felt better than cold too, cold felt terrible when it “numbed” it it just got all achy. I had plenty of porridge (ew) and asian congee that my mom makes (which of course you wouldn’t be eating lol), On the most painful days all I had was soup with rice in it, rice that was very very very well cooked because biting the smallest thing hurt. I also had jello to ease my sweet tooth. It doesn’t take too long to get used to it so it will just be a bit of “fasting” for a few days. Avoid sticky things at all cost. No caramels, no gum, or gummy candy especially while you are still in pain. BUt yea, if the pain is really bad the best things to eat are the things that require no chewing like soup.
