All of those questions depend completely on the brand, talk to your doctor and he’ll help you pick out a brand that is good for you.

I am on orth tri cyclin! It takes effect as soon as you take your first dose! I have not been sick or gained weight! It has really helped with my cramps also!

WAIT!!! It takes a full cycle (one full pack) before it is fully effective.

Talk to your doctor. Have a list of questions if that helps. It’s great that you are taking responsibility, and know that there are many brands available, and that all are about as effective, but they differ in side effects with different women. Brand A that causes NO symptoms in ‘Jill Smith’ can cause discomfort in ‘Jane Doe’, and a third may have a different prob. And ‘Jane’ could switch brands and then have no problems. You have to be willing to work with your doctor. Good Luck!!

First of all, if you want to take the pill, it takes a month/or a full pack of pills, for it to start working effectively. Secondly, it depends on your horomone level that determines which BC will be more effective for you. From my experience, I have been on two bc pills: Ortho-trycyclen and Yaz . I was fine with Ortho, but of course that was about 5yrs ago when I last took it. Now, I have decided on Yaz., because of the recent commercials. I have been taking it for almost 3mnths and it totally sucks for me. I have gained weight, my period has not been regulated yet and might I add that I have gone from spotting to lightly bleeding to spotting again nonstop for almost 3wks now! The only upside is that my acne has cleared up tremendously. I have also gained a full cup size. Some might not see that as a bad thing, but I was already a 36C and I was seriously not looking to be enhanced anymore than that! Consult your doctor about all birth control. Some like the Nuva Ring, my friend is so happy with an IUD that she’s had for 2yrs now. My sister likes the patch, so it really depends on the person and how well your body can handle it. Good luck!
