Which is the best SLR camera, Nikon or Canon?

I want to buy a digital SLR camera and am considering either a low end Nikon or Canon with the idea I’ll invest in quality lenses first and upgrade the camera later. Any advice on which is the better brand.

In my expierence. Canon’s are more user friendly, but Nikons are better quality.

There is no answer to this question. There are long and bitter arguments about this very subject. Back before digital cameras photographers have been arguing who makes the better film camera for decades.

I don’t think that you will go wrong with either one.

The problem is that once you invest in one system or the other you are locked in because of your investment in lenses. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages. I’m a fan of Nikon optics though even Nikon has a few duds in their line. If you have a specific kind of photography you are interested in that may help guide you.
