I have a fantastic digital camera and enjoy taking photos, so a friend recommended buying an slr camera, does anyone know any decent but cheap ones? Also, explain to me more about them? Is the nikon d40 any good?
Depends on what you want to do with it.
One thing I'd point out is that film SLRs are very cheap now. You loose the convenience of digital but you can get top shelf film gear for a song now and create great images albeit you will still have to get your film processed.
I use digital for 99% of my photography but I still shoot some film because I'd have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to duplicate what my film equipment in digital.
Have a look at Nikon D40. This digital hd video camera with 18 to 55mm lens under the cashback offer (£60 back from Nikon if bought before 31st Aug) will be about £270 to £280 once you have received the cashback. If there is a Jessops close by then I would suggest you visit and try out the different cameras suggested and see how they feel in the hand and how easy you find the menus and buttons to use. http://funadvice.com/r/bqkd1a90i19
