Do you think it would be beneficial for the government to invest into getting people to the gym?

I think it should because it would cut the cost in healthcare

Answer #1

So are they going to fine you for being over weight? Or you have to have a gym membership like you have to have car insurance?

Personally I think its a terrible idea. If people want to be fat, and over weight is their choice. If they don’t have the will power to stop eating food that’s terrible for them, that is their problem. I don’t believe the gov’t needs to subsidize gym memberships or health care.

The gov’t doesn’t need to spend our tax dollars taking care of lazy fat people.

Answer #2

I didn’t mean they would force you to go, but they would actually pay for the membership, you could not go if you don’t want to, I just think some people who can’t afford the membership would like to go but can’t due to finacial restraints. I think if people got into better shape that it would cut healthcare costs

Answer #3

No I don’t think it would. If people want to loose weight and better their health a gym is not necessary. You can do plenty of exercising w/o any equipment but your own body right inside your home. And I’m sorry my remarks come off as angry and grouchy. I feel very frustrated by this “gov’t needs to take care of me” attitude that seems to be going around and it scares the crap out of me….

Answer #4

I understand how you feel, I’m leaning the same way, and scares me to :-)

Answer #5

In my country, the public health insurance institution offers bonus programs to people who go to the gym regularly. They pay less for health insurance. I think that is the way to do it.

Of course that is only possible in places where everyone has health insurance anyway.

Answer #6

I like that idea quite a bit.

Answer #7

Yeah, Government-Mandated Gym Attendence ! We could FINE them, JAIL them…..who needs ANY private-citizen run venture !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To H with Freedom !!

Answer #8

No amount of money the government “throws” at anyhting is going to make a difference other than a feather in a polititions cap and more intrusion into our lives and wallets. The truth is, fast food restaurants bring in alot of tax revenue for the govt. same as tobacco companies as well as doctors and hospitals. And contrary to what the govt. says, they don’t really want us to live long enough to retire, stop paying income tax, and draw social security because they have already spent the money we’ve paid in. The notion that the govt. cares about us is a smoke screen. It just wants our hard earned money and then for us to die so they don’t have to pay us anything. That’s why tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy food is legal. The cold hard truth.

Answer #9

Well, i think that if someone chooses to eat whatever they want, it’s there lifestyle. If someone chooses to eat healthy & go workout, that’s their lifestyle. It only affects me with the decision i choose, so if someone were to buy me a gym membership, i’d honestly be offended.
