Borders bookstore has musicians play at their stores a couple times a month. it’s free, and they’re always looking for someone new to play there. I manage my buddy’s band, and I’ve had them play there before. you kinda have to pump the date though, because not too many people go to borders to listen to live bands. depending on where you live, radio stations have games where they’ll play amateur music and let people call up and comment on them. I live in los angeles, and there’s 3 stations out here that do that. carefull though, callers are brutally honest. I’ve heard good music get torn up by biased callers before. but that’s all free to do. lots of record labels listen during those times though, and if you’re good, they can call the station and get your info to contact you. you definitely need some good songs though. record a cd…and go someplace decent! get it recorded right, because if you do it at your house, it’ll sound like crap, and nobody will want to listen to it. best of luck guys…live the dream.
