is it just me or are artists running out of ideas for songs so they turn to remixes of old ones?

Answer #1

Yeah, I think it sorta does…there’s only so many songs and remixes you can do before you run out, you know…

Answer #2

Remixes are done for a lot of reasons. The most common reason is that it gives a popular (or formerly popular) song another chance at radio play or being aired at a club. Sometimes a song is only created and classified in one genre, remixing it can give it life in multiple genres depending on what details (dynamic, tempo, equalization, etc) are tweaked and added.

A lot of times, it’s not even the artist that remixes the song. Rather, a DJ will pick it up and ask for rights to remix it. Artists will just take advantage of it to (hopefully) appeal to a broader audience.

i think that a lot of groups now days buy the rights to some of those old songs to do a remake because a song was a hit at one time and it is almost guaranteed to be a hit again with the remake- so there is usually not much work involved in remaking it and usually a large payout. i don’t believe that all of the songs have been written- human imagination is never ending and new inspirations happen everyday. new bands doing remixes and remakes is like slipping a cover of a song in on their CD- to me just an easy way out, instead of using their own brains to come up with something new. bands have been doing it forever and will continue to do it. hip hop is infamous for remixing- sampling (stealing) ideas from other artists- which is why i am not a fan of hip hop in general. kid rock is also a big thief of other artists- he says it is paying homage to his musical roots and influences- i say it is taking the easy way out and raking in tons of easy cash and fame from someone elses hard work ( a reason i am not a kid rock fan as well)

Answer #4

oh. i know what you mean..the same goes for movies too. why can’t people be more original? i guess they can’t think of anything better.

Answer #5

yeah i believe they are. there is this cd called punk goes pop and they just sing the songs in their own way trying to make it better and i tnink that sometimes it is, but it should not be remixed

Answer #6

There is just songs that have the same subject, they see that, for example, love is something that everyone goes trough and they know that if they write a song about it there will be people outhere, in love, brocken hearted, or crushing. So everybody is doing this, probobly someday it will get old, even dough love wont.

Creativity among artists has definitely gone down in the mainstream pop music. Look into alternative stuff like Imogen Heap/Frou Frou (she used to be in the band so kind of the same thing), Death Cab For Cutie (great way for a mainstream music lover to be introduced to alternative stuff because this band isn’t WAY out there), Velvet Underground, etc. Look for old-fashioned jazz videos, even if you don’t like the music. Look into 1980’s punk music, all kinds and all eras. Eventually you’ll find something new to you.
