Last year I took a blood test, and my iron levels were 12, classifying me as anemic. Last month, I took another one, and my iron levels were 36. The doctor said that normal levels were around 20. is it healthy to have so much iron in your blood?
A normal range for iron levels is technically 32-36%. I would say you are in a safe range. However, too much iron is NOT a good thing. I think too often people misunderstand the statement better too much than not enough.
Too high of an iron level can cause heart disease, liver cancer, etc. Again though, you are in the normal range.
if your doctor was concerned, then he would have done something about it...at least he should have!
I think it's better to have too much, than not enough (but I haven't covered iron levels yet lol!!) but I think basically, anything out of your normal range should be a caution, and you should get it followed up...
