Yeah, he was also sent to tell Virgin Mary that she was gonna have a son (Prophet Jesus) eventhough no man had touched her.

the angel Gabriel is the one who appeared to the Virgin Mary and told her that she was to bear a son and name him Jesus. He was also the one who appeared to the prophet Daniel and helped him understand the vision God gave him. So I would say his purpose is to deliver messages from God
