America, the number one superpower

I was wondering, is america the number one country in the world because all of the money they save from building their small skyscrapers goes towards their military? I was thinking that america is the only superpower, because all the money they save from building their tiny ‘skyscrapers’ goes to the military to bomb other countries. Places like dubai focus on architectual acheivements and not bombs and war, so that is why america is considered the best because of its military strength. It focuses the most on its military strength but it lacks and is far behind all other countries and places like dubai in basically every other technological area. please give suggestions. thank you.

Yes, you’re right the costs of US health care in many places is ridiculous and something needs to be done. The government taking further control of the system is not what I had in mind. That is actually part of the problem already, along with frivilous lawsuits, the absurd number of health care corporations and their sketchy underwriting policies, and of course, HMOs themselves.

All of this is what is causing the coverage gaps that plague the American health care system. In the 1970s, Americans began to demand that their auto manufacturers provide safer products and many grassroots efforts put an end to corporate corner-cutting. Something like that is what is necessary to fix US health care today. I’m afraid electing a new president won’t cut it.

mjax1979, you’re right that there is no country with a perfect health care system. Technology wise, the US wins, but I was talking about basic health care. The average low income person who can’t afford to even get tested for diabetes, for example. My daughter works in the medical profession in NY and she pays $600 a month for a basic health care package. Her sister, who lives in Canada, pays nothing. But here’s sometthing interesting - when my husband was very ill a few years ago, the canadian government paid the bill for him to be operated on in the USA. I think the total bill was around $130,000 and it saved his life. So I am very thankful to have access to this “hybrid” service. I’m the first to admit that the Canadian system fails when you have to wait 3 months to see a specialist, and when you finally DO get into his office, he’s backing out of the room and looking at his watch as he’s handing you your diagnosis.

I’d say America is ahead when it comes to military, but way way behind when it comes to providing basic health care to its people.

Answer #4

America’s money for the military doesn’t come from the skyscrapers…the companys own the skyscrapers…not the government…military money comes from taxes and other government accounts our country is majorly in debt from the military..yet we have the best military in the world…did that answer your question???

mjax1979 America has one of the worst health care systems ever for such a stable country. They do not have public health care meaning if you do need help then you end up paying a lot of money. This is okay for people who have that kind of money but unfair for people who can’t even afford things like yearly check ups or to get help with a flu or a diease. This does not benifit the America population and shows the rest of the world that they kind of don’t care about their own country. Canada and the Uk have good health care system which provide free health care for those who do need it

“but way way behind when it comes to providing basic health care to its people. “

Behind who? Europe? Most European countries don’t have a health care system to brag about, despite what you may have heard about Sweden or the UK. And if you go to a German hospital, do not expect to be seen quickly or even referred to the proper medical professional for your condition.

I would say that athough the American health care system has many flaws, the quality of care is far above what you will get anywhere else.

I don’t want to be rude but Americas far from it. They were close to becoming the number one super power until the war started and the majority of the goverments money went to the militarty causing America to be the most economically unstable it has been since 9/11. This of course is a bad thing because the war is predicted to go on for another 4 or 5 years in which Cananda has just signed on for the 3 years. So basically in the furture there may be conscription to the war and very poor economic conditions not just for America but probably Canada too. This is of course not benifical towards either country. But to answer your question no America is not the number one superpower

Answer #8

Just because America’s military is strong doesn’t mean it is number one. A country could still be strong simply because of its sheer volume of people (China for example, it may be poor but because it has so many people a big problem could come from it, that is if the people were actually willing to help a government that doesn’t care for the lower class people) or influence in politics. Also, America is deep in debt, eventually it will have to pay it back, the military will possibly lose some of its equipment to pay it. This is my own opinion on this subject at least.

Answer #9

overit, have you ever been to the UK? As in, lived there for an extended period of time? I lived there for three years. Their system has plenty of flaws, trust me. My boss was not able to get dental care because the health care system would not cover him at his age. He actually had to fly to the US to get treatment he needed because the company, rather than the UK’s awesome socialized medical system, at least had a dental plan for him.

Canada and the UK, like the rest of the world, have flawed health care systems. Humanity has never, EVER designed a health care system that is totally without flaws. Your understanding of the American health care system is obviously very limiited. If you are in an emergency, you can get treated in a US hospital regardless of your insurance status. And the government spends a LOT of money on health care.

The US has the best cancer patient survival rates in the world and generally speaking the quality of care you get is very high. Many medical professionals from all over the world study medicine in the US, and clinical practices that originate in the US are adopted by many nations.

Does Canada have some advantages over the US system in some ways? Sure. But our system’s got advantages over yours too.
