advice after mom died

what are usall ways to deal with death of a mom at 13 and would wetting the bed sucking my thumb and being extreme scared of dark and crying usall?

Answer #1

The thumb sucking and what not is called regression. When people undergo traumatic events, they cope in different ways. Sometimes regression (I.e. going back to acting like a child) is one of them. It’s a safe bet that as long as it isnt interfering in your life, and you do eventually start coping in other ways, that it isnt something to really worry about.

The 5 stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

I lost mty dad at 13 and it was the most single most painful; horrible, heat breaking thing I’ve ever had to go through. I was a mess. I tried killing myself hurting myself I turned it to a horrible child as I missed my dad. I was scared of the dark as I knew my dad wasnt with me no more to protect me and also I was scared he would show up as a goust. so what I did was I shut my eyes and I spoke to him in my head and in a way he spk back to me. its a great comfort. all thesed problems your having is understandable as you ahve lost your mum at such a younge age. it does get easier I promise :). talk about it all the time, dont shut thing inside. talk about ytour mum to your friends, dad, sisters brothers etc.

sorry for your lost sweetie but I promise you it will get easier in time xxx

Loosing a mother is probably one of the hardest things to go through, seeing as most people are more attached to their mother rather than their father.

Being scared of the dark would possibly be because the mother would tuck you in at night. So being scared of the dark because your mother has passed away and is no longer doing that.

Wetting the bed, possibly from stress I guess. Try not to drink anything before going to bed, and use the bathroom behind hand. That should solve that problem :)

And the sucking the thumb would possibly be from insecurity, seeing you have no comfort zone to come to now. The child would have to turn to itself for comfort.

Have you thought of talking to your father about this? Maybe starting to open up to him will build a stronger foundation. He must be torn up about this as much/more than you are. It was his life partner that was taken. If you two come together you can start to cope more of the situation.

I’m very sorry for your loss, but look at it like this; With each end there is always a beginning. And with each beginning is an end. All good things must come to an end eventually, but as do the bad things. Nothing lasts forever, everything eventually breaks down or fades away. Either it’s death, or just growing apart. When things are too much to handle or you start to crumble a bit, talk to someone you trust, either your father, a sibling or a good friend. Talking about it really helps, you can finally put it behind you afterward.

If you need anything fun mail me, I’ll be happy to help. :)

I am so sorry for your loss - different people react differently, so don’t worry about that - there’s no ‘right way’ - you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers - Understanding the nature of grief can help us better cope with loss. Grief is a natural, healthy process that enables us to recover from terrible emotional wounds: http://www.cbn.com/spirituallife/CBNTeachingSheets/Grief.aspx
