Adopting a kitten

My boyfriend and I are looking into adopting a kitten. Probably from the Humane Society. Is it ok to get a kitten from here? What should we look for in a kitten? He wants to get a little grey one…what should we name it?

Where should you look? what should you name it? man if you can’t figure out these simple things how are you going to take on the responsibility of raising it, next thing you’ll be posting is “ the kitten crapped on the stairs..what do we do?”

I just started vounteering at an Animal shelter. There was a sweet guy 13 years old. I was told he was going to be euthenized in 2 days so I brought him home. He is the sweetest cat. I have other cats and they accepted him right away. He fit right in. No problem. So I recommend an older cat too or a Black cat. People don’t want to adopt black cats and of course they make great pets too

Like the first person, I think you should get a cat apposed to a kitten, because kittens are what everybody wants and you should get a cat because you will end up saving its life in the long run. get one thats like 2 or 3 years old. :D oh, and you should deffinitly use the humane society, because most animals get put down there, so you know that you are saving its life through that too.:]

I agree that you should adopt an older kitty. I would go to the local shelter. I’m not sure, but I don’t think that the Humane Society euthanize’s animals. The shelter usually puts them to sleep if not adopted in 2 weeks. I, also, agree with irrismith about getting one of the kitties that probably won’t be picked by anyone else. If it were me, I would go for one that is ‘NOT’ the cutest. That poor guy would not have a chance, but you guys can save him. As for his name, a good way to pick a name is to go to thesaurus.com and put in words that describe your new kitty. You’d be surprised at the neat names you’ll come up with. Good luck. =^u^= katwoman

you should check out petfinder.com they have all ages of cats from kitten to older cats that you can adopt. These were homeless animals that have been taken in and taken care of. Some have medical conditions some are very healthy. You can find out everything about them. Some have their shots already, it lets you know if they are more cuddly or more of a loner type animal. There are pictures and some are already named. It often times tells you the story of where they found them, and what the animal went through. I fall in love with all of the animals I see on there everytime and want to adopt them all, but unfortunately I cant have pets where I live AND my boyfriend is allergic :(

Answer #6

I think you should adopt a cat, kittens are more likely to be rescued. Cats do not have as good as a chance and will sadly be killed if they do not get a home in a certain amount of days! In any animal, I would look for signs of healthiness. Good eyes, clean hair, alertness, normal beahvior, etc. Play with the different cats and kittens, you will automatically click with one and then you will know!! -emma

thats excellent…I’ve been helping to foster kittens 4 our local shelter and knowing you’re thinkn humane society is good to read.like rawrgrrl said , see which one comes a runnin and click OR if you root for the underdog, you could find a little one that no one will take for some reason or another, and make him the most special cat in the world! most places like that have an adoption fee which may or may not include it’s first shots and low cost spay or neuter, but they are usually pretty fair if you convince them the little one is going to a good home… look at the kitties eyes for dischrge which could mean upper respiratory condition, but generally the place will only adopt out healthy kittens…as far as the name, well let it develop a little personality and name it after its behavior or it’s escapades…good luck !
