Acceptance

Should acceptance be a concept without discrimination? To be considered accepting and tolerant, do we have to accept intolerance and bigotry?

Answer #1

get along with them be ok with their views…

I guess?

Answer #2

define what you mean by “accept” them

Answer #3

The way I feel is that I “accept” everyone but I don’t agree with every one’s beliefs. To me when you accept someone you take them for what they are…you agree to let them have their own beliefs and you don’t fight them on their beliefs. You don’t have to agree you just need to “accept” that they think differently.

Answer #4

I think it’s more accurate to say ‘acceptance’ is not and should not be blind - there must be the element of proper discerning / evaluation / thoughtful proper consideration, be of a positive nature in order to merit acceptance - example: we should never blindly accept ‘anything goes’.

Answer #5

No. The whole purpose of tolerance is so we can all live together peacfully regardless of our differences. Intolerance undermines such a system of quid pro quo, and so need not be tolerated.

Those who break the rules are no longer in the game.

Answer #6

Baldwinwolf is right. Not accepting them would be a sign of intolerance and and bigotry. Above that, it defines us as judges. We don’’t want to do that. Accept them for what they are, and find your peace outside of them.

Answer #7

On a personal level, no. You don’t have to accept bigotry and intolerance in people you associated with.

On a societal level, it depends. Society must tolerate the intolerant so long as their intolerance doesn’t affect the life, liberty, or property of others. As a concrete example, the KKK has the freedom to speak out about their views, and to assemble in a manner consistent with the law. Most people may find their message repulsive, but they are entitled to freedom of speech. However, past Klan activities like lynching and other expressions of bigotry cannot be tolerated at all by a civilized society. I believe in recognizing such activities as hate crimes.

Answer #8

I’m sorry - but no you do not have to accept them.

Bigotry and Intolerance are not traits that I would ever except in a person. Possibly because of my teeanger years when I came out and was hazed for it daily. I think you can still be a kind and accepting person - without accepting those types of people. I’m not saying you should get down on their level - fight with them - talk trash - or act on it - but you shouldn’t have to accept it either.

Answer #9

yes we have to accept it, because to do otherwise could be viewed as INTOLERANCE AND BIGOTRY.

now to agree with the point of view- no we don’t have to agree with it at all- and have every right to disagree.

as far as I am concerned , I have seen it a lot- a ‘tolerant’ group of people trying to silence another group using the same tactics as the group they are trying to silence. to me this is ‘hypocrisy” to the extreme.

Answer #10

Answer #11
