What does the word duality mean?

i have read definitions, but it still confuses me.

Answer #1

I think it might have to do with the number two, because dual is related to the both of them =)

Answer #2

From what I understand, a duality is having two sides to something, like yin and yang. Having a dualist view of spirituality, for instance, means that you believe in a soul separate from a both…two beings interacting as one. Man and nature act as a dualism. Essentially when you have two things that are seemingly opposite acting at teh same time, you have duality.

Answer #3

It’s sort of having two opposite sides to something. In eastern philosophies these opposing forces are complementary (as heaven said, yin and yang) while in Western philosophy the opposing forces are conflicting (good vs. evil). Things are separate in duality, usually very black and white.
