Will I become an alchoholic?

hey..im 15 and I drink every weekend basically, Will I become an alchoholic when im older??

Answer #1

Certainly possible, if not probable in your case - if for you it becomes ‘habitual or obsessive’ - hope that won’t be the case (a lot of heartaches)…Take care and Happy Thanksgiving !!

A state of addiction is reached when people habitually or obsessively surrender themselves to a substance or behavior. A person with an addiction uses a substance or behavior to escape from pain or reality. Yet by the nature of addiction, they only hurt themselves or others, and continue to deepen their addiction.

First of all ‘’ashouldertocryon’’ starving yourself and making yourself is nothing to be proud of actually its immature! Back to the point…It’s perfectly normal.. I used to drink every weekend from friday night to Monday morning before I was pregnant! If you know when to stop you will be ok

Answer #3

You are 15 and you drink every weekend. I’am dead sure that by the time you’re 18 you will become an alcoholic if you continue to drink.

Your body is young at the moment and as you grow old it will become susceptible (dependent) to the consumption of alcohol. Medical definitions describe alcoholism as a disease which results in a persistent use of alcohol despite negative consequences.

Identification of alcoholism may be difficult because there is no detectable physiologic difference between a person who drinks frequently and a person with the condition. One of the tools that can be used to detect a loss of control of alcohol use is the CAGE questionnaire, named for its four questions, it is one such example that can help you in future to know if you are an alcoholic or not.

Two “yes” responses indicate that the respondent should be investigated further. The questionnaire asks the following questions:

Have you ever felt you needed to Cut down on your drinking? Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking? Have you ever felt Guilty about drinking? Have you ever felt you needed a drink first thing in the morning (Eye-opener) to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?

My suggestion is that you quit drinking for now and wait till you are 19 or 20 (thats the age in which your body matures and becomes less prone to alcohol).

Answer #7

I think you should definately cut down on the drinking because just look at it this way when you turn 21 there is going to be no fun in it if your already drinking alcohol you should put it off for a while or maybe only drink on a special occasion or holiday or for celebration…

Answer #8

it’s more than likely that you’ll become an alcoholic. but hey, im in high school and get drunk every weekend too, but it’s not like I carry my own whiskey jug around school… if you feel like you NEED to drink then you are become an alcoholic. but if you feel like its just a fun thing to do and able to refrain from then I’d say it’s ok.

Answer #9

It’s very possible, and it’s also possible that other bad things will happen: date raped, start taking other drugs, liver cancer, cirrhosis, the alcoholism…

Answer #10

Drinking every weekend is not a good thing for anyone to do, and I would definately say that you are heading down a very self-destructive path.

Answer #11

its not certain you will become an alcoholic when you are older. Its always a possibility however - especially if you start drinking alcohol to feel better about yourself. Just watch how you drink, and why you’re drinking, and you should be alright.

Answer #12

most peoples alcohol addictions start like that if your questioning it then the ideas already in your head you may b one already im not your doctor but your routines and social habits are formed when you are a teen if your out drinking and partying all the time then thats where your going to feel more comfortable if you like the feeling so much that you need to have it then you r an alcoholic you should at least cut down your drinking it sounds expensive anywaysif you feel you cant cut down then you should hook up with some counselling

Answer #13

Dear monii, If you are drinking every weekend you are already an alcoholic. An alcoholic is technically determined by the withdrawals you have when you stop drinking. So this weekend do not drink…what do you feel? What are you thinking? Did you get through the weekend without a drink? Did you find it hard? If you found it hard to get through and felt shaky or other symptoms you are technically an alcoholic. We classify alcoholics as daily drinkers, weekend drinkers, binge drinkers, holiday drinkers etc. If you are prone to alcoholism then it wouldn’t take much to become one. So drinking every weekend would make you an alcoholic if you showed symptoms when you stopped. Sue…good luck
