Why so many innocent deaths?

I’ve just been watching some youtube videos about the sea sheperd and greenpeace confronting whaling ships in the antartic. although the thing is, on the side of the ship, it says RESEARCH. And I watched another video saying they were going to kill at least a thousand whales on the trip. So why do they need to kill 1000 whales for a bit of resarch? Pointless, really.

Secondly, who do you prefer more, Greenpeace, or Sea sheperd, and why?

Answer #1

Exactly what I thought punkrocker4ever, with modern technology and science they would only need 1 if they wanted. I couldn’t agree more!

And Stephanief987, you are so right aswell. It’s only money in these times. That sounds so logical and obvious now, Thanks fro that!

Answer #2

they’re just saying they need that many for other stuff; people make stuff out of whale blubber, etc. personally, if they were REALLY doing only research, they would only need maybe 2 or three; not that many.

Answer #3

Oh wow - that’s so sad. I’m not sure on statistics but I think it’s all because of money, that’s it, people make money off of doing this. Horrible!

Answer #4

Those whaling ships are actually used for research Believe it or not

Greenpeace is actually exaggerating how many whales are being killed each year by the ships labeled research, which actually happen to be japanese ships Norway and Iceland are doing more whaling for non-research purposes and Japan is getting blamed for it Some people are saying its racist, some people say this is not about racism, but animal rights Who knows Alaskans kills whales and seals too, but no one’s complaining about that either In many countries eating whale is part of their culture, their own identity

And the media is exaggerating everything even more They aren’t hunting whales that are on the verge of extinction, they are hunting whales that are not any concerns of extinctions

But then of course I’m speaking out of experience because I used to live in a fishing village in Japan and have been to whaling villages at other parts of the world as well

Yes, some people kill the ones that are on the verge of being extinct and sale parts of them to the black market But that happens with every animal specie in the world that’s almost extinct And yes, there are different species of whales, just like birds

And none of the parts of the whale goes to waste when they are killed Some parts goes to research, some parts are actually sold for food During WW2, many asian countries ate whale because of its highly nutritious With my grandfather, that was all he ate during the war because there really wasn’t anything else to eat People still eat them, but its not cheap because there isn’t a big supply of them like other fishes such as salmon or tuna

And don’t think modern technology will be able to accomplis everything and anything, if they were we would have a cure of cancer, alzheimers, parkinson’s, etc. Everything isn’t like CSI and you just press a button and everything is solved

So don’t judge a business and an entire culture because of two youtube videos Not all of them are bad

the crew of the Sea Shepard are certainly brave people…and while some “research” may be happening I think there are other ways to study whales without killing them…

I feel personally that the hunt of whales is a barbaric practice that we need to get rid of…I can not imagine what Japan needs to research that would require the slaughter of so many whales…So many creatures dying…

I have also seen reports for other sources other then Greenpeace who are saying many whaling ships have been caught outside of the hunting grounds and in some cases have been caught hunting humpbacks, which are on the endangered lists…there have also been reports of mothers and calves taken and killed as well…that to me is disgusting beyond words…

Also knowing that whales often take up to a hour to die after having been harpooned is disgusting…its cruel and outright torture. No creature should suffer so much. A whale often DROWNS after being shot…it doesnt die from the shot itself but from not being able to breath. That is awful…I don’t care who you are, if you are a being with an ounce of compassion in your body you see this is wrong…

Whale Wars have done something that should have been done long ago…They are drawing attention to the slaughter of whales…the hunts that still take place every year…

FINALLY someone is drawing attention to a practice that has been long forgotten and hidden away…the tactics might be controversal, but again, is certainly gets your attention…
