Why should teachers be armed?

original question: Should teachers be armed? My friend is doing a topic at school and her topic is whether teachers should be armed or not. She is affirmative. Most people I know are saying no, including me. I was just curious about that everyone else thinks. By the way, when you say that teachers should be armed, your talking about teachers carrying a weapon at school.

blimey…now by weapon im hoping you mean a ruler or something towards it, not a gun or a knife for example.

whats actually quite interesting is the concept on weather teachers should be able to hit the students (as in with a ruler or clip over the head, nothing to drastic now) is this what you mean ?

in the past, children were controled both at school and at home a lot more than today. Unfortunatly we live in a world where the older generation are scared to live their homes because of the so called “hoddeys” for example. and many of them have a point, this is in general because I am aware that many young people do not act like this at all, me being young myself proves it, however it is true that in general the youth of today has lost its respect for both the elderly and school teachers and systems. There is no way that in the past you would have seen children swearing at their teachers, not bothering to do their homework and skipping school because the result of that was a beating from both parents and teachers and this meant that they were obligated to show a little respect towards those that are helping them prepare for their futur. But today, what with all the rights and laws and all sorts of legal aspects means that children are no longer afraid to misbehave or be rude because their punishment is now a days mostly a piece of paper of some kind that they give no importance to.

tell a misbehaving child that you will write out a complaint or tell them that you will give them a good clip around the ear if thay try it and see for yourself which one has most effect.

so to some up, bring back the rulers and the slapping of the hands and it would really have an effect upon the behaviour of the students in general but the dilema is is it realy liable, should it be allowed, physical punishment for bad behaviour? is a child behaviours badly and we punish them using pain are we shrinking to their level? and also, if a parent smacks a toddler’s behind for not doing as their told to reinforce the concept that it is bad is this not the same? surly these children, now well aware of what is expected from them at school for example have the choice and know what they are doing in unexceptable and yet they do it anyway. if it is not seen as completly unacceptable the smacking of a childs bum for something they do not either understand or know then why is it that the smacking of one that does know and does it anyway is unacceptable?

it is a very dificult situation to imagine and I can neither say yes or no if im honest but hopefully I have givin you some ideas to contemplate about for your studies.

all the best and I hope it all goes well :) good luck :)

My goodness- in what situation should anyone bring a gun into school?

When Columbine occurred, it was a huge tragedy, and shock to the world. But giving teachers guns? What’s that gonna fix? If anything, I think it ups the chances of someone getting hurt or killed.

If anything, I think a better weapon would be to give teachers proper training to recognise situations where students seem isolated, withdrawn or bullied- I think if enough teachers actually took a look around and actually intervened in these situations, that would be a much more positive outcome.
