Allow children to assess and take risks without over or under or over protecting them
Risk is part of life, and children need to learn how to deal with the consequences of taking risks and cope with life in general. I've seen quite a few of my friends that were overprotected and as soon as they got a little bit of freedom they tended to go haywire.
My general rule is that if it's not dangerous or morally wrong, let them learn for themselves.
I have 2 teens and a preteen and they are all very responsible.
If you know its somethin that will hurt them but not seroius let them do they have to learn the hard way soemtimes.
