Why is it adults or really all people group entire population 2geth

Why is people will group entire populations together? I mean a few kids do drugs so all are doing them… my generation is called the RX generation because more of us are popping pills that we dont need.. well I’ve never popped a pill that wasnt prescribed for me and same with the majority of the people I know.. but because some do it that is our generations name how is that right? So then shouldnt the people in the 70’s generation be the druggie generation because a lot more people did drugs then… aslo why is adult always assume that kids can’t be trusted I mean yeah some aren’t worth a thing but some kids are more trustworthy then the adults that dont trust them. if a kid dresses in dark clothes parents tell their kids stay away from them their druggies and goths maybe they just like dark clothes.. why do we have to catagorize every one why cant you just actually listen to people and not try to put everyone into groups especially when its a negative grouping?

Well if you want to get into an evolutionary psychology perspective, the reason we group people together is because it’s how we survive. How else are we supposed to know whether people/animals/things/situations are dangerous or not? When we evolved, we didnt have time to sit around and evaluate the situation. Things were life and death, and if you were not able to create categories and react quickly then you were dead. Thus ending the continuation of your genes which lacked that ability. Now, as for lumping people together. People will dress, act, listen to music, and do things in groups. Is everyone part of that group the same, absolutely not. But the more a group is known for certain things, and the more the person looks like they fit into that group, the more likely it is for people to assume that the person does the things the group is known for. You’ve got two options here. Stop dressing/acting like the group you feel is being stereotyped negatively. Or stop listening to what people think of said group. Ranting about it is not going to get you very far. If it’s dark and there’s a big guy with ragged clothes and he’s unshaven, not very clean, and looks like he’s drunk, and I’m alone, yeah, I’m not going to sit around wait to see if the guy is harmless or not. Is it stereotyping, maybe. But it’s how people survive. And it’s how parents protect their kids.

People generalize, that’s a given…steryeotyping is just part of life. I personally think that on a one to one basis, people tend to drop the generalization…just something I’ve noticed in being around a long time.

As for your generation being called the Rx generation, it’s because of the prescription drug use. We hippies never got anything we took from a drug store (or mom’s medicine cabinet)… :)
