Why did he create school?

Okay, get this, I’m not gunna sit here and say I love school. It’s the most ridiculous thing ever. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t need schooling to become a professional guitar player. It’s pathetic how people go to school and get grades on what they’ve learned. I feel so dumb at times. I try so hard to keep my grades up, but some stuff I just don’t understand, even if I do get help. I’ve thought about dropping outta school and moving in with my friend who’s 19, but, my mom won’t approve. I’ll do anything for school to go away forever. Why do I hate school so much? I’ve found a few things I like about school which is, my friends, get to be away from home, and the fact that if I don’t go to school I’m getting kicked out. What can I do to like it more?

My best friend is a professional musican. I mean…he has been in bands that were on MTV, toured with some big names, knows people you just wouldnt believe!!! He is also into producing as well.

Want to know what he tells his teenage son who wants to follow in his footsteps?

GO TO SCHOOL. Get an education. Then you wont be stupid when it comes to finances, etc. If you know more than just how to play an instrument then no one will be able to take advantage of you. You can manage your band, not just play in it. There is SO much more to the music industry than you can imagine and having a good education will only help.

By the way, its also good to have something to fall back on. The music industry is up and down. Something I have learned from him and his musician friends is to always have something else going on. Not too many people can survive just on their band gigs. All his friends, as well as himself, have other jobs and creative outlets. Wether it be producing, managing, song writing, working in TV, internet jobs, yard work, construction…whatever.

Dont be an ignorant musician. Be smart and no one will be able to control you. Set your own path. Dont be content to just follow and be “part of the band”. You can OWN the band if you are smart enough.

Going into music is a very cool idea and my work for you with no problem. Even though I agree that somethings they teach us we’ll never use again unless it a major we plan on following.

However, its still very important even dealing with the music industry. You want to know what you are signing and sometimes they will throw fansy words to make it sound good. You want to be incontrol of whats going on to your contract to your money and scedule. The music world is a dirty business and very one pretty much looks after themselves. My friend is in it.

You want to be apart of the entire process including the copywrite and creative coLntrol. Being in school with centain classes will give you the skills you need to intract and not be taken for a ride. Your english, math, public speaking and many will equip you. So hang in there because whats meant to be will be. Not to mention getting your paper will give you something to fall back on. Just think about…you don’t have to love it. but so many kids wish they had the opportunity, just look at it in a differnt perspective. Good Luck…finishin school is not the end of the world. Who knows there could be something better out there for you once you finish. Without ane education even dealing with music it can be hard.

That must of been a great feeling to do whatever. I draw and write music when I’m in and out of school, so I think it’ll be the same. :] Btw, about your band… you see I wanna be in a band to, how did you get that far? I’m interested. Lol. :)

Thanks for the advice! I’m trying sooo hard to stay in school, but each day goes by and I think about dropping out. My back up plan is to become a photographer or an artist. :P
