Answer #1

I think Christianity has been a little MORE divided than most… over 30,000 denominations… approaching 40,000.

Answer #2

How can there be so many different versions? It depends on who is translating the original manuscripts. King James is one of the older if not first to have it translated into English. There are groups of people who put it onto themselves to change some of the text, or leave books of the bible out and bind it up and called it The bible…but it wasn’t…it was a crippled version.

Why is Christianity so divided? Good question. I think one of the things is the interpretations differ from denomination to denomination. Like personally, I have big issues with Catholics…why? Well, there are MANY reasons. I believe that they are the reason why people think that all churches are just out to get your money. And I’m like…come to my church, with it’s leaky ceiling, and budget problems. How many huge Catholic cathedrals are there? LOTS. And they figure out ways to get money out of you that are just crazy! And no..I don’t believe in following that example.

And another reason for the divide I believe is based on tradition. If one group had sort of a feud with another group, that can spread on to some others. It’s crazy. a lot of my problem with Catholicism is with it;s seemingly resistant biblical stances. Why in the world do they pray to Mary?

Okay, I’m done.

It depends on who is translating the original manuscripts.

Uhhh… but we don’t HAVE the originals… they were lost ages ago. We only have copies of copies of copies. Its not really accurate to call ANY of them a ‘manuscript’ …when the scriptures were taught orally for many years before they were finally written down; more time for errors, be it by memory or personal ambition, to be accrued.

King James is one of the older if not first to have it translated into English.

That isn’t saying much… Transcripts were discovered that pre-date the KJV transcripts by approx. 600 years. That’s 600 years of compiled oration and transcription errors. Of course, many people/denominations who hold the KJV above all others, won’t even acknowledge the possibility of their ‘perfect’ Bible having flaws. And many more of them simply don’t even know about it.

I believe that they are the reason why people think that all churches are just out to get your money.

Funny… for me, when you mention religious greed… televangelists come time mind, not catholics. Though, catholicism is probably where it all started; but they did it by force, in a time period where they COULD. The televangelists (today) just use their silver-tongues to manipulate people, which I consider more indirect and devious.

Answer #4

I think the bigger problem is HOW? HOW could a (finger quotes) ‘’perfect infallible’’ book be interpreted in sooo many different ways? And why would there be so many different versions of the book? Which one is the right one? And how do you know its the right one?

Answer #5

as you said because we are living we change our views, but when it comes to religion I think zer is only one true way. zat is Christianity for me, do not ask me why I choose it just tell me how it is divided.

Answer #6

It’s not just Christianity, ANY religion (or political movement, for that movement) experiences divisions over time, as different people begin to think in slightly different directions. It’s only natural.

Within Judaism, there are Reformed Jews of various categories, more Conservative Jews and the Ultra-Orthodox. Within Islam, the Shia and Sunni split is probably the best known. Buddhism has three major groupings - Theravada/ Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana - each with their own sub-divisions.

And so it goes on. Belief - whether religious or political - is never static, because it involves living, thinking and feeling human beings.

Answer #7

That is why I dont conform to any branch of christianity. I dont like the idea of one denomination becoming too big. Catholic church for examples have standards and regulations that are dictated by men and women rather then G-d.

Answer #8

over the years, leaders have had differences on what needs to be taken more seriously than others and explained why. today, we argue about those very same reasons.

thats the simplist answer I could give
