Why am I having chest pains around my menstrual cycle?

About 4 or 5 months ago I started having bad chest pains. It does not make me short of breathe, but does hurt if I take a deep breathe. It’s as if a lot of pressure is being placed on my chest and at times it brings me to tears. I have had a few EKG’s done, an MRI and they have come back normal. I do have endometriosis, but they do not think that this is related. Any ideas as to what could be causing such pain?

I am 38 and have been having chest pains during menstration for approximately the last 4 months or so. I also have endometriosis, and have been dealing with it since I was 12. At first, I thought the chest pains were possibly related to stress (I’m going through a divorce right now), but last week the pain woke me up from a deep sleep, so I don’t think that anymore. I have been searching the internet, and some sites indicate that sometimes endometriosis spreads to the lungs and this can cause “a painful constricting in the chest and/or shoulders.” I hope that it doesn’t get any worse, but I’m going back to my accupuncturist for more treatment, as this has helped my endo symptoms in the past.

I’ll be checking this board for updates. Good luck!

I think that endometriosis is most certainly connected! I have the exact same symptoms, extreme chest, neck and back pain during and following my period every month. I even take my pills back to back so that I only have to experience this every three months. Endometriosis can spread to any part of your body and cause pain, I think that is what I have too, going to see the gyno next week. Be your own advocate but that is probably the culprit

I get the same thing.About a week before my period I get pains, little cramps in the left side of my chest, pain go’s into my left arm and in my jaw too. This has been going on for almost 2 years.I usually did not get short of breath with it, but this last week I started getting tightness in my chest.I am under a lot of stress right now though.I have high cholesterol so I pushed a cardiac work up from a cardiologist. I had a CT Angiogram and calcium score that was Normal with low risk.I am beginning to wonder if it is all anxiety and in my head.Last night I finally took one anti anxiety med my doctor gave me and it helped,at least I was able to sleep. I also think it may have a lot to do with hormones causing anxiety. Maybe you should have the CT done,it is safer than traditional angiogram and 97% accurate. It may help ease your mind too.If it is not your heart maybe you could try natural hormone balancing and also make sure you have complete blood work up. Hope this helped you. If you find anything else out that can help me let me know.Good luck!
