What percentage of men are sperm donors?

What percentage of men are sperm donors? And why is the number very little? Wouldn’t all men want to do that for the money? Why do most men not do it?

Answer #1

The process is not:

  1. Whack off in cup.
  2. Count money.

This is from the summation of an online guide to becoming a sperm donor at soyouwanna.com:

‘The entire process can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, and you often will have to leave many many many samples before they accept you. And remember, less than 5% of all applicants are approved (from the good banks, at least)’

No to mention the payout is usually anywhere from 40 to 100 bucks, which is so not worth having no control over my own genetic material, it is completely beneath my consideration.

Answer #2

The criteria for being a donor is pretty exacting.

And I assume that most men just don’t think about it.
