I have to write a persuasive essay about the idea of the school district saying that anyone that is failing any classes must attend Saturday school.I think its a stupid idea but what are three things that would support that? Please and thank you
The idea of going to summer school may scare kids into doing well simply because they don't want to lose out on their weekend. This might also persuade teachers to pay more attention to failing students so they don't have to come work on the weekends. Beyond that, parents might even step in and find help for their children because they wouldn't want to commute the children back and forth on Saturday. This would be especially persuasive if no buses ran on the weekend because parents would have no option but to drive their kids.
The key to any good persuasive essay is to take the points of the other side and deny them. Sooo...you could say something like:
"Some may argue that the cost of the additional day of school would not be worth the gain, but if anything that should be a greater motivation for the program. If the additional day costs more, parents and teachers alike will be persuaded to help their kids in order to bypass the extra costs enitrely. Also, that one extra day may help a lot of students get out of summer school, which is a far greater expense in itself. Students could still enjoy the rewards of the summer while maintaining the extra academic attention that they need throughout the year..."
Sorry, I could keep going. I write articles for a living so I have a tendency to go off the edge with stuff like this. But hope I helped a bit. Let me know if you need anything else.
agreed with the above, and heavenly mid does have pretty good points, though they all seem for the extra day, but still pretty good none the less. Do what she said, take those points and find what t go against them with.
another idea that may help While the extra day of learning may seem like a good idea, the human brain can only absorb so much at a time. It needs a period to rest. Students have grown accustomed to 2 days of rest. Take that away and you may just burn them out.
You may also have those students who have family plans of the weekend in which the parent is unwilling to drive the student. Or perhaps a students may lack transportation do to the fact their parents work and they may live too far to walk. There's also gas expenses, some parents may not be able to afford the extra gas money, depending how far the student lives. Or perhaps the parent just got home from work and is too tired to drive the student. Depending if they force their selves it could risk an accident. Some students may have weekend jobs. If it is required for students to go, it will hider those who do not have a way to get to the school over the weekend.
make points from BOTH sides of the story, and make sure you let the reader know whos side your on.
if you do it just right, itll be a good A. heavenlymind has got good ideas too.
Reflect on what they're saying, and imagine how you'd feel if they actually did it. Good luck. :-)
