When are there too many miles on a car?

Im looking for a car for around a thousand. I found a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse… Looks great and the add said it runs fine with a few minor problems(sucks up around a half court of oil a week) I can live with those… However, the car has 280,000 miles on it… Only had two owners, but has been around the block… I just need a car to start out on when I get my license this summer. My parents are very convicned its crap… What do you think?

thats a shit ton of miles lol, try to get something under 200,000. It’ll last a bit longer. I currently have a BMW with 230,000 and it’s so unpredictable what is going to happen next haha.

Sounds like crap. Honestly get a nice used saturn. There great on gas millage. Might not look like an eclipse but if taken car of can be last. I’ve seens some at 300,000+. No joke. I was looking for a nice looking car, then reality hit and I realiszed I needed to taxn title the car. Then insurace then gas. Go see how much your insurance would be on that eclipse. If its sucking a quart of oil that fast that is not good at all.

NO!! You don’t want it. If it’s burning oil at that rate, the cylinders are going…or at least the seals on the cylendars are blowing oil…you can’t afford this car. This will need a new engine coming up soon…(1/2 a quart of oil a week is a LOT of oil to be losing)…

Look around for one that isn’t losing oil…if it has 250,000 miles on it, and you have to pay another $200…then do it. Parents are right.
