I have like a hundred things going on start up, and it is really bogging my system down. heeeelp!
Here is a couple list for ways to speed up vista in general http://funadvice.com/r/3ku2io2pi5 http://funadvice.com/r/3ku2io2pn9
Here is a good database of startup programs and if you need them or not. http://funadvice.com/r/bm6l2d2ip If you open msconfig, (I think it works in vista..) and turn off everything at start but your antivirus and firewall you should be ok. I can't really tell you what all specifically you can turn off because there are just so many of them. Just basically leave your anti-virus and firewall on.
Personally, I'd remove everything that starts on startup other than your firewall, and your anti virus. Otherwise, the start up time is really long.
Depending on what software you're running, the instructions will be slightly different.
However...the biggest performance boost with windows is always to wipe the hard disk and do a full re-install.
To be able to stop start-up programs, go to your MSCONFIG and unchecked all the boxes on start-up tab except the anti-virus then reboot your pc
What OS are you running and version are you running?
windows vista :(
