What:: What sort of laptop should I get?

I have been saving for a while, and finally I have $600 to buy a laptop with. Although, my parents said they would pay half for my birthday, and my aunt/uncle said they would put in $100 because I fixed their reaaallly messed up computer. So basically, I have a limit of about $1300. Notice that I say /about/.

I have some pretty specific requirements. They are below:

  1. MUST be Sony brand!! (top priority)
  2. Must have a full-charged battery life of 5 hours or more! (also VERY VERY important to me!)
  3. Nothing in the color black. My past three laptops were black, and I’m ready for a change!
  4. I would like it to be able to burn CDs
  5. Must have a high enough graphics card to play Sims2 (all of the games in the series) without any problems
  6. Must have a decently big amount of memory space
  7. MUSTMUSTMUST have Windows 7. I HATE vista
  8. Must be no more than $1400
  9. Must be brand new. I will not take used.
  10. If I buy it online, it must be from a VERY VERY well known store, like Best Buy, Walmart, etc.
  11. Must have a 4-star rating or higher. I had a friend who got one with a 3-star rating and it has broken in some way or another 4 times in the last 5 months.

If you give me a link to a website, I will NOT click it. I don’t click random links, they have led to viruses many times before. If you know of a laptop that fits my requirements, please just give me the brand and the model number, and what store you found it in. Thank you VERY much!!

Answer #2

Macs cannot play sims. I specifically asked for a laptop that can run sims. Thank for the suggestions though.

Answer #3

Plus, Macs can easily get viruses. It’s just that PCs get them more, because if you’re going to make a virus, are you going to make it for the 95% of the population that has PCs, or 5% of the population that has Macs?

I’m not very computer sassy but I’m certain the more you pay for a laptop, the better the laptop is in regards to longevity, the laptop screen and the stuff that are on it. (Sorry, amateur opinion).

Have a look at the Acer range, especially the Acer Aspire 6920G. I got this laptop at the beginning of last year; cost me (AUS) $2680. It’s very attractive and glossy. Watching movies on the laptop is awesome (Dolby Home Theater) It’s like you have your own visual surround sound system.

The battery life is pretty good and last a few hours (depends on how bright you set your screen etc). It has Bluetooth, my laptop tells me when I have a call coming in, lets me send text message via the laptop (basically connects my mobile phone to my laptop).

Also, one last thing, the Acer Aspire 6920G is even betters then a PC. It runs faster and has more power, especially for online games.

Unfortunately, Acer Aspire 6920G only comes with Vista. (I’m currently negotiating with one of our work IT gurus to install Window XP on it for a lunch date :) , so will let you know if Window XP is more user-friendly).

:) I love my laptop and its money well spent and strongly recommends it as it meets all the ‘must have’ requirements you have listed in your question apart from the cost.
