What was your career limiting move ( clm )?

I’ve been self employed for more than four years…before that, I worked for large, faceless corporation of America (tm). In the first few weeks I was there…I flame mailed two Vice Presidents and a Senior Vice President of the company, and copied my boss (also a Vice President).

Turns out I had proof I was correct in doing so, two years later…but that single email torched my career and essentially, limited any possible advancement for me at that company.

That is a career limited move (acronym clm)…flame mailing the higher ups :) Have you done that before, if so, care to share?

Answer #1

Wow, never done anything that severe as yours.

But the closest mishap for me was forwarding an email from a work colleague gossiping about another work colleague and without double checking the TO: recipient name (Lotus Notes automatically brings up the first few names with the same letter), I hit send and with only the words ‘FYI’ in the body of my email, to another work colleague and one of the female supervisors received it instead.

Didn’t get in trouble but the original sender had a written first warning on her file. …Learnt my lesson, you cannot retrieve sent emails with Lotus Notes, but you can with Microsoft Outlooks if the recipient has not opened the email.

Affair with a married co-worker. The family-friendly all-female owners took a dim view about my suitability among their staff once it came to light.
