What to do with my life now?

Three days ago, about two weeks away from my wedding, my finacee broke off our engagement and our wedding. I am at a loss of what to do. The tickets have been bought and paid for, reservations made, and while my parents and his parents have been fairly kind and understanding. I don’t know what to do with myself. After spending the last year planning our future together, I am now planning a future for one. I have no job because I was planning to move with him and get a job in his home state. I dropped out of college because we planned to go to a different school together. I was staying at my parent’s home the couple weeks before the wedding. So I am now stuck living at my parent’s. I don’t know what to do with myself.

You should focus on your own happiness, and get your life back on track. It’s a hard thing to do, and honestly it’ll take you a very long time to get over the pain of this breakup. Learn to spend time by yourself again, get to know yourself all over again, and learn to like your own company.

Really. I mean it. Go to movies by yourself, out to eat by yourself, to museums and zoos by yourself. The first few times, you’ll feel awkward and sad because you’ll constantly be reminded that you’re alone. It won’t take long, though, before you start to enjoy yourself… and look forward to the things you do.

Also, start looking for work–or, if you have the opportunity from living with your parents, do volunteer work or something else you truly enjoy. Your first step, more than anything else, should be about finding happiness again.
