What should I do about my girlfriend visiting?

To start with my parents are seperated, they live in the same city and I live with my mum when I’m not at university, I don’t get on brilliantly with my dad but I try. However, he is really paranoid about the fact that I spend more time with my mum and step-dad than I do with him and his wife, without realising that the majority of the time I don’t really see a lot of them anyway, usually just in my room watching tv/online/studying.

My girlfriend from university is coming to visit for the first time this week, she’ll be staying here and so will be meeting my mum and step-dad. Obviously that isn’t the purpose of her visit but it will happen and I’m okay with that. However, my dad has now asked if I want to go to his for dinner before I go back to uni at the end of the week. I don’t want to go because my girlfriend will be here and I don’t want her to meet them or to drag her about getting there and back. I’d rather take her out for a meal that night.

I don’t want to upset my dad but I know he will get about it because she is staying here and he’ll feel like he is being excluded when the matter is that I live her and it is convenient. What should I tell him?

I want to tell him the truth but he has this thing about meeting this new girlfriend as he barely met my ex and wants to see me before I go back to uni. I did go to his for dinner last week but I felt uncomfortable and like he wanted to get rid of me whilst I was there. What do you think I should say? Because no excuse seems like it will be good enough.
