Is it bad that I'm considering him as a boyfriend?

okay so there is this boy that I like, and I think that he likes me to, well we have been hanging out a lot lately, and he tells me that he loves me and stuff… pretty sure that he is just joknig around so I go along with it, and I give him a hug good bye, and say love you too or what ever. is this a bad thing that im doing this, he seems like kind of a player, like idunno if he does this to all his friends that are girls or not. I know that him and his last girl friends broke up because he flirted a lot with other girls, and she was really jealous.. well I just got out of a crazy relationship, but im starting to like him. is this a bad thing that im consittering him as a boy friend? -he is so sweet, and like he was there for me through my last break up, and my other friends have told me that he likes me. and talks about me all the time but like im not sure if he hugs all of his friends bye, and tells them that he loves them, and calls them late at night to talk for hours like me and him do…im so confused…

should I be spending time trying to make plans for us to hang out, and like get to know him -letting my self start to like him, or is he just playing around, and like if you think he is..should I give him the chance to ask me out,..or should I just try to forget about him, before I start to have real feelings for him??
