What's wrong with my buddy?

So my friend told me she was Schizophrenic. But after searching about Schizophrenia, I found that what I was reading didn’t all fit what’s going on. Anyways, she told me there’s a voice that tells her to do bad things, like kill our teacher and classmates. and very recently this voice has been yelling at her, she says it in a different language sometimes. Also, she told me when she was playing fetch with her dog, she saw the ball as a beating heart and not a ball. The worst, is she’s feeling physical pain, it started with playful pokes, but then it turned into burning hand and slapping. So, I’m confused, is this Schizophrenia, or something else.

Ok- Schizophrenics don’t really ‘know’ they’re Schizophrenics. To them, their delusions and illusions are real, and they don’t typically recognize them as figments of their sickened imagination. It’s a slow spiral downward, not, ‘Well she seemed fine Tuesday, but by Saturday morning the dog was telling her to jump off of the roof.’

She’d have other signs like poor hygiene, violent outbursts, fear of eye contact… of course those are symptoms of other disorders, and they’re also not ALWAYS symptoms of every Schizophrenic. There are many different types of Schizophrenia.

The most likely scenario is that she’s making this up to get attention, or to get help for something else that is going on with her. She’s probably seen Girl Interrupted too many times and thinks she can get the disease down.

Of course, on the off chance that she is genuinely experiencing these symptoms, she needs to get help immediately. The sooner Schizophrenics get into treatment, the better.

Talk to her parents after you’ve spoken with her about this further. Don’t judge- if it’s a cry for attention, the best thing you can do is be her friend.

I think you should tell someone about her, she’s your friend and wether she’s just making all this up or their really is something wrong with her then I think she’ll need professtional help.

Answer #3

You cannot research and know what Schizophrenia is, it does not work that way. And seriously, no one can diagnose from what you’ve told us. I mean it could be an attention seeking thing, or perhaps she truly does have psychotic symptoms which could be linked to a number of disorders. Obviously most people who are Schizophrenic know that they have some kind of problem. They dont stay in a psychotic state constantly. But its hard to know with that information what the real problem is.
