What kind of classes should I take when I plan on being a chef1day?

Take Hospitality, Home economics. Cook in your spare time. Get a job which involved working with food, this could be anything like McDonalds or a Chip shop. Get any and then go to college doing catering and I must say, catering is pretty difficult and the uniform/knives etc dont come cheap- not where I am anyway.

Believe it or not, you’ll need math. I’m a chef and a pastry chef and math was a big part of the program….you really do use it more often than you think.

The courses you take in high school really will not affect you much in the long run. The most important part of culinary training you will get will be in Pastry School- there, they specialize in baking and will do much more to further your skills than any high school home ec. class.

For now, start your training by actually baking at home. And if you really want to, you can research Pastry Schools/Baking Programs in your area for future reference. Always keep an eye on cost.
