What is wrong with my computer!? Is it a virus?

I will start from the beginning bi download custom sims 2 content (like custom clothing/hairstyles, etc.) I spend a very big amount of time on my computer because I am homeschooled. I use avg, the free version. It works very well and I practically swear by it. Anyways, I download sims content from a site called The Sims Resource. From what I know it’s a very trusted site. Two months ago I got a virus called Antivirus System Pro. Eventually I got rid of it by wiping my harddrive and reinstalling windows xp. Well I was downloading custom content today. The usual permission download windownpopped up. I did save, then open. About ten seconds later, a blue screen came up out of nowhere. It had white text all over it. A bunch of coding. At the bottom, it said something about restartin my computer. It also said “copying memory to disk” 4 sec, 5 sec, and so on. The thing is, I did not have Any disks in my drive. I freaked, took a few seconds to say some very elaborate curse words, then restarted my computer. It booted normally. It’s been almost 9 hours and nothing has happened. Also, I scaned with avg and the results were all clear. I’ve don’t my research, read about the Smitfraud “bluescreen” virus (which I am now certain I do not have). I apologize for how lengthy my question was. It’s just quite a bit to explain. Anyways, can someone tell me what is wrong? Also, the sims content I downloaded was in a sims2pack form. Thank you sooo much in advance.

so you got the Blue Screen of Death?? (BSOD for short)?? What error code does it have on it.

Here look at this image: http://ourpcnerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/bsod_a.jpg you should be seeing something like that w/o the arrows.

Now see where the arrows are pointing? That tells you what broke. If you get the BSOD again Post or fun mail me that info and ill see what I can find.

Other option is you usually get a mini dump log when you get a BSOD. Its located in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump. Hit me up with a fun mail if you can find one. should have the date it happened if there is more than one.

Once we have what caused your BSOD we can try to track down the issue. Could be anything from window having a bad day, to hardware dieing and anything in between. If it never shows up again it may not even be an issue, windows could just have hiccuped :P

firefox blocks any site assosiatid with antivirus system pro where as IE you must configure it to not go to them sites itsself :S

at least that was the score the last time I used IE anyway…

you have a very unsafe browser… if you are using firefox already make sure its upto date ;)
