What is good advice for a girl who's never moved, that is moving?

I have never moved in my life! I’ve been to the same school since pre K. I’m not very good at making friends , it took me this long to get and keep the ones I have now, and now I have to move to a place 12 hours from here that I’ve never been to. I’m different, like emo so people don’t like me cause of the way I dress. do you have any advice on how to make it all easier?

Yeah. Dont assume everyone isnt going to like you. I have a hard time making friends, so I do feel for you, but you need to not assume people are going to dislike you, you’re going to be realistic but not pessimistic about it. So yeah, just say hi to people, talk to people, and since you’re new this tends to be the best time to try and make friends. Once you’ve settled in, it’s harder to approach people. So ask people questions about where to go, where the classes are, what the teachers are like, introduce yourself, ask them about themselves. Seriously, the most important thing you are going to have to do for yourself is not assume people will dislike you. Also, try smiling once in a while, it does help. Being moody and angsty all the time is not going to get you very far. Yeah it sucks that you’re going to be moving, but it is what it is, you may as well accept it and try to make the best of it as quickly as possible, because believe me the longer you’re in a place, the harder it is to then join a group and make friends. If it’s summer already, I suggest you try to go out to where people your age hang out. Just look for the friendliest face, and say hi, ask a question, introduce yourself, etc… I’ve seen some of the kids I work with walk up to complete strangers and be back with their phone numbers in a matter of minutes (mostly to prove to me that it can be done). Most people out there are looking for connections. There’s very few people in this world who couldnt do with just one more friend.
